10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning is not exciting for many of us. But it has to be done. As the winter come to an end and we start looking forward to spring, something within us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve piled up throughout the winter months.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of a home?
The outside of your home could likely use a little tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the appearance of your home in Folsom, and, even more important, will provide much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save you a lot ofmoney in years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the ideal time to clean your gutters, because so many of leaves and debris accumulate during the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest during the spring, making a mess in your gutters and downspouts if they aren’t properly cleaned.

Plus, pests and critters are scavenging for places to build their homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Residential window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows won’t give you too much of an issue, but second and third floor windows will be a bit trickier to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring chore, and it will need a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the recommended solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You do not want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. That means you are going to want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is quick, effective and doesn’t cost very much. You can clean your home, patio furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they won’t permanently stain your home, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem silly because you’ll just be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washing company will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s pavement, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really help it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio probably gets the most use during the summer months, so it can be easy to forget about it during the winter since you aren’t doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in pretty bad shape the first time you go onto it in the spring.

Detergent and water – and a little muscle – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or mildew, you may need to consider a more aggressive option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.

6. Roof Cleaning

Algae and moss are typical home roof issues in Folsom. While you’re cleaning the outside of your home, it’s an excellent time to clean your home’s roof too, but you’ll have to use a different method than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you start to notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is probably the cause. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These contaminants cannot be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your home’s roof.

The best course of action for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then let it be. This will eliminate any organic organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Spruce up the Front

The front of your home is likely what most people see, so make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a clean exterior will instantly improve your day, and it will motivate you to spend a lot more time outside.

Clean your front porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Wipe cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and consider painting it for a really bright look! Clean unnoticed areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You will soon be spending much more time outside, so spring is a wonderful chance to organize everything you’ll need for outdoor chores.

Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have a specific place outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the outside of your home much more during the time of year when you spend the most time outside.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and bushes make a big impact on the overall look of your home.

Get rid of weeds around your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you might be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make yard maintenance easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After sitting unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can make you and your family ill.

Wipe it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.

You can probably complete all of these projects over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call!
